This year’s ASBSD-SASD Convention – set for Thursday and Friday, August 10-11 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center – currently has 42 breakout sessions covering governance and policy, finance and legal, student achievement and training topics imperative to K-12 public education, as well as sessions sharing information on great services for schools.

2017 Convention’s keynote address will be given by Col. Arthur J. Athens with breakout sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday featuring information on educating ELL students, Title IX, school bus safety and much more.

Convention’s opening day continues with 20 breakout sessions covering the updated conflict of interest of law, following the open meeting’s law, utilizing mass customized learning, deescalating violent situations in school and further sessions providing valuable information to public school leaders, as well as the Awards Banquet featuring Gov. Dennis Daugaard and time to visit Convention’s numerous exhibitors.

Friday’s session includes two invaluable general sessions covering the latest on the funding formula’s accountabilities and the updates made to the South Dakota Retirement System. Twelve breakout sessions keep the information coming with an update on the juvenile justice mandates, teacher and administrator evaluations, a preschool pilot program and additional instructive sessions.
